Beginning on September 2, we’re studying the book of Galatians, using Galatians: Living in Freedom and Love by Karen Lee-Thorp and Scot McKnight as our guide.
Order your book for $7 and pick it up at P:F so you can be prepared for the kick-off discussion of the Introduction and Session 1 on September 2, at MCC from 6:30-9:30 pm!
The P:F Ski Weekend at Seven Springs has been canceled due to amazingly warm spring weather that makes for amazingly bad skiing and snowboarding conditions.
Instead, we’ll be having a game night at Joel & Laure Kline’s house in Penn Hills… It might not be a snow-capped PA hilltop, but there will be Italian sodas and cupcakes galore!!
Join us this Thursday from 7:30 – 9:30 pm at MCC for the kick-off of our new study of the book of Romans! We’ll be using Romans: Celebrating the Good News by Douglas J. Moo and Karen Lee-Thorp as our study guide. You can pick one up at Monergism Books, Amazon.com, or at P:F for $10 (only 2 copies left!).
Come hungry! This week we’re feasting on homemade Buffalo wings and all kinds of other great snacks!
Our next study, which begins on February 25, will focus on the book of Romans. We’re still hammering out the details of what resources we’ll be using other than the B-I-B-L-E (yes, that’s the book for me), so we’ll keep you posted as that story unfolds.
While you’re here, check out our updated list of upcoming events! We’ve posted the schedule for most of the rest of 2010 (including Vintage Movie Night, our spring camping trip, and some summer parties), so mark your calendars with all the important dates (and start weeping openly if you already have scheduling conflicts).
Due to forecasts of the attack of an abominable snowstorm this evening, our regular P:F meeting is canceled for tonight, Thursday, January 7.
Lord willing, we will continue our study of John Piper’s Don’t Waste Your Life next Thursday.
In order to stay on schedule, we will combine our discussion of chapter 5/session 6 with chapter 6/session 7, so read and study on to prepare for next week!
“As Christians, we believe that all sins are considered equal in God’s eyes. Yet while evangelicals continue to decry the Big Ones—such as abortion, adultery, and violence—we often overlook more deceptive sins. It seems we’ve created a sliding scale where gossip, jealousy, and selfishness comfortably exist within the church. In short, some sins have simply become acceptable.
“Bridges, bestselling author of The Pursuit of Holiness, believes that just as culture has lost the concept of sin, the church faces the same danger. Jerry writes not from a sense of achievement, but from the trenches of his own personal battles. Drawing from scriptural truth, he sheds light on subtle behaviors that can derail our spiritual growth. Throughout, Jerry encourages a victory over personal sin through the gospel’s transforming power, the perfect release for those who desire to thoughtfully examine their lives and discover a deeper walk with God.” – From Christianbook.com
Starting on September 3, we’ll be reading and studying Respectable Sins: Confronting the sins we tolerate by Jerry Bridges. Order your book and study guide by Thursday, August 27!
